Neighborhood Minecraft

Get your child playing

Game time: Sundays, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Next game: Sunday, Nov 8 at 2:00 PM

Do these steps once. It takes about 20 minutes.

  1. Buy Minecraft

Buy Minecraft: Java Edition for your child's Microsoft account. The store sells it together with Bedrock Edition for PC.

Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC

  2. Let your child play online

A parent signs in at account.xbox.com/settings, picks the child, and sets "You can join multiplayer games" to Allow.

Every child account needs this, or Minecraft will not let them join. Your child must be in your Microsoft family group for the setting to show up.

  3. Enter the invite code

Type the code from the paper slip and your child's Minecraft name. The Minecraft name is the player name shown in the Minecraft launcher after signing in. It is not the email address.

One code is for one player.

  4. Download Neighborhood Minecraft

Pick the one for your computer:

    • Windows
Unzip it, open the Neighborhood Minecraft folder and double-click Neighborhood Minecraft. If Windows says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.
    • Mac
First install Prism Launcher from prismlauncher.org. Then drag this file onto the Prism Launcher window to add Neighborhood Minecraft.
    • Linux (most PCs)
Unpack it, open the Neighborhood Minecraft folder and run neighborhood-minecraft.sh.
    • Linux on Raspberry Pi (64-bit)
Unpack it, open the Neighborhood Minecraft folder and run neighborhood-minecraft.sh. Needs 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS.

  5. Open it and sign in

Open Neighborhood Minecraft and sign in with your child's Microsoft account. The first time, it asks you to add a Microsoft account; follow its steps to sign in.

If sign-in fails with a message about a child account (error 2148916238), go back to step 2: the child has to be in your Microsoft family group.

  6. Plug in a headset

Use a headset with a microphone. Voice chat only reaches players standing nearby in the game, and it is never recorded.

  7. Play on game day

On game day, click Neighborhood Minecraft. It only opens during game time: Sundays, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Next game: Sunday, Nov 8 at 2:00 PM.
